Alstom and Vietnam Electricity (EVN) officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art gas turbine reconditioning workshop, located in the Phu My district, in presence of Mr Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr Duong Quang Thanh, Chairman of the Members Council of EVN and Michael Rechsteiner, Senior Vice President Thermal Services at Alstom. It is the first reconditioning workshop in Vietnam and the first for Alstoms network in Asia.
This 22 million[1] euros facility, which is part of the joint-venture formed in 2012 between Alstom and EVN, will create about 150 new jobs. It is 5,500 square metres and houses the latest machinery for the reconditioning of hot gas path parts, many of which are available for the first time in South-East Asia. At full capacity, the workshop will be able to refurbish several hundred sets of gas turbine components per year. It is already setting the benchmark in terms of EHS (Environment, Health and Safety), with some 2,000 hours of trainings in the past year, and a total of 500 days without LTAs (Lost Time Accidents) since the beginning of operation in December 2013.
Establishing this reconditioning workshop is part of a major long term investment in Vietnam and shows our commitment bringing local capabilities to this fast growing region. Having a reconditioning workshop located in the heart of Asia is instrumental for Alstoms continued growth in the region, said Michael Rechsteiner, Senior Vice President Thermal Services at Alstom.
About the Joint Venture
The Joint Venture (JV) was first formed in 2012, the result of over 20 years of cooperation and understanding between the two partners. The JV is established by and between three parties: Phu My Thermal Power Company, Alstom Asia Pacific and Alstom Vietnam. It is located in Phu My town, Tan Thanh district, Ba Ria Vung Tau Province. The objective of the JV is to provide reconditioning services locally to EVN customers and for export under Alstom network. EVN provides key components while Alstom contributes with its technology and other services to increase current activities in Phu My. Among the other partnerships between Alstom and EVN are thermal power plants, like the Phu My gas-fired power plant, and major hydro projects such as the Son La (2400 MW), the largest hydropower plant in South East Asia, and Lai chau (1200 MW), Huoi quang (520 MW). Besides, Alstom and EVN agreed to establish training programmes for EVN engineers and work together to deploy online monitoring of power plants, reducing fuel consumption and improving plant efficiency.
