Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, today announced that it is joining Operation Lifesaver Canada (OL) in its mission to educate communities about rail safety, raise awareness, and save lives. OL is a nonprofit organization and nationally-recognized leader of rail safety education. Since 1981, OL has been committed to preventing collisions, injuries and fatalities on and around railroad tracks and highway-rail grade crossings, with the support of public education programs across Canada. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to safety and community engagement.

"Our collaboration with Operation Lifesaver, alongside our industry peers, is a powerful reflection of this commitment. Through community outreach and education, we proudly contribute to a shared mission: saving lives and fostering a culture of safety across the rail network."

Head of Railway Safety, Alstom

Every year, 2,300 North Americans are killed or seriously injured  around rail crossings, tracks and trains. In Canada alone, more than 100 people per year are seriously injured or killed around tracks. In the first half of 2025, trespassing incidents are up 46.8% and serious injuries related to trespassing are up 150% over the five-year historical average. This year from September 15 to 21 organizations across the rail industry come together for See Tracks? Think Train® a time when industry partners, safety organizations, community leaders, first responders, and more – remind the public about how to stay safe around railroad tracks and trains.

"At Alstom, rail safety begins with our unwavering commitment to quality — in our products, systems, and services. Ensuring optimal performance is not just a technical goal; it’s a responsibility we carry to protect our people, passengers, and the communities we serve. Our collaboration with Operation Lifesaver, alongside our industry peers, is a powerful reflection of this commitment. Through community outreach and education, we proudly contribute to a shared mission: saving lives and fostering a culture of safety across the rail network." said Tania Fauchon, Head of Railway Safety, Alstom.

To date, more than 50 Alstom employees across North America have volunteered to be trained to be Operation Lifesaver Rail Safety Ambassadors, and volunteer to bring the OL’s education material to life in their own communities.

“With everyone doing their part, we can get to zero: zero rail-related incidents, injuries, and deaths. But we still have work to do. It’s why Operation Lifesaver Canada is thrilled to welcome Alstom and their employees as ambassadors. We are thankful for their partnership in supporting our lifesaving mission to prevent track tragedies," said Chis Day, National Director, Operation Lifesaver Canada.

“As North America’s largest private passenger rail operator, we are committed to keeping our people, passengers, and communities safe. We are very proud of all our team members who have stepped up to volunteer their time to help save lives. We believe that through this partnership, we can make a significant impact on rail safety awareness and contribute to the well-being of the riding public and the communities we serve,” said Josee Ouellet, Vice President Services North America Alstom.
