ALSTOM is supposed to completely renovate the four turbines,
including new run wheels, test and control of the condition of
the generators as well as the installation of new magnetisation
equipment for them. Furthermore, new control- and
instrument-equipment for the steering and supervision of the
station as well as mechanical equipment for the cleaning and
regulation of the water flow will be installed.

"Our long and wide experience in both modernising existing
stations as well as delivering new hydroelectric power stations
was a decisive factor. That is why we got the order ", says
Bengt Assarsson, managing director for ALSTOM Power Sweden
AB.

"The order is also a confirmation of the strong position we
have achieved on the Baltic market. ALSTOM has recently
delivered several stations in the fields of energy- and
environment-technique to Baltic countries", concludes
Assarsson.

The project in Kaunas is managed by ALSTOM's hydroelectric
power sector in Västerås, which is responsible for
overall project resources and local co-ordination. The
construction and production of components is mainly located at
the company's special units in Europe.

The power station in Kaunas was taken into operation in
1960. Its modernisation is supposed to be finished in 2008.
