ALSTOM acquires Reunert's shareholding in ALSTOM South

With effect from 1 October 1999, ALSTOM has acquired
Reunert's 50% shareholding in ALSTOM South Africa. This makes
ALSTOM South Africa a wholly owned subsidiary of ALSTOM. The
acquisition is subject to the approval of the Competition
Commission.
'The acquisition of the Reunert shareholding represents a
major investment in South Africa by ALSTOM,' says Mark Wilson,
Country President of ALSTOM in South Africa. 'It is a vote of
confidence in the viability of our economy, particularly in the
development of the country's electricity and rail transport
infrastructure.'
ALSTOM, as one of the world's leading technology suppliers,
follows a strategy of obtaining and maintaining full or
majority ownership of its subsidiaries and exercising
management control.
ALSTOM South Africa employs 3500 people ; it manufactures
equipment for T&D, industry and rail transport
applications. It also undertakes turnkey projects in T&D
and rail transport.
