ALSTOM, through its subsidiary Chantiers de l'Atlantique,
has received confirmation of an order from P&O, one of the
world's leading cruise operators, for the construction of two
1000-cabin, 88 000 tonne cruise ships.

In addition to these two ships, scheduled for delivery in
October 2002 and June 2003, the order also includes options for
a further two ships to be delivered in February and October
2004.

For vessels of this size, these newly designed cruise ships
will have an unrivalled percentage of cabins that are either
exterior facing or include balconies.

Particular attention will be given to environmental issues,
with the power being produced by a gas turbine and 'clean'
diesel engines.

These ships will be equipped with noise reduction devices in
order to respect the quality of life for the underwater world,
particularly the cetaceans.

Due to the confirmation of this contract, ALSTOM now has 13
firm and two optional orders for cruise ships in its order
book. ALSTOM's Marine Sector is the n°1 builder of large
passenger ships world-wide.

ALSTOM is a world leader in the energy and transport
infrastructure markets. Present in more than 60 countries,
ALSTOM is organised in six sectors, Energy (through

ABB ALSTOM POWER), Transmission & Distribution, Transport,
Power Conversion, Marine and Contracting, all of these being
supported by the ALSTOM Network.
