ALSTOM Transport was chosen 'The Best Industry in Railway
Stock', one of the seven categories of the Revista
Ferroviária Prize, instituted in 1989. Revista
Ferroviária (railway Magazine), with 60 years of
publication, is currently managed by journalist Gerson Toller,
and is the most ancient magazine in ciculation in Brazil.

The prize is annually granted to personalities and companies
taking into consuderation their achievement in the past year.
The choice is made by Publishing Committee of magazine
constituted by seven people of notorious knowledge in rail
transportation. In choice of ALSTOM, the major factors were
mainly beginning of delivery or orders from Metro Company of
São Paulo (cars and signaling systems), completion of
orders from Metro Company of Rio de Janeiro and recovery and
consolidation of Mafersa plant in Lapa, today ALSTOM.

Recently, the company started na export program to the
United States of 40 structural car frames (semi-finished cars
for railway trains). The order is intended for one of the lines
of Amtrak railway, responsible for the California portion
between san Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The ceremony of delivery of Revista Ferroviaria Prize will
be on March 17, 1999, at 5.00 pm at Crowne Plaza Hotel, will
the presence of Governor Mario Covas who will also be honored
in the category of Railway Man of the year. Among the prize
winners are Teresa Cristina Railway (best railway operator) and
RRFSA (Federal Railway Network S/A) which will receive the
hors-concours prize.
