On 25 June, ALSTOM, leader in the world's energy and
transport infrastructure markets and Light, a Brazilian company
specialist in electrical power generation and distribution
signed an agreement to form a new joint company, ALTM
S.A.(ALSTOM LIGHT Technical Maintenance) which will focus on
preventive and corrective maintenance services for electrical
equipment and installations in Brazil. ALSTOM and Light will
hold 51 % and 49 % respectively of the capital of the joint
venture.

With sales in the first year of approximately 17 million
Euros (30 million reals) and 380 employees mainly coming from
Light, ALTM will begin operations in July.

This move is a further step in ALSTOM's strategy to
increasingly penetrate the services segment of the Transmission
& Distribution market and increase its local presence in
the Americas.

With the conclusion of this agreement, Light confirms its
strategy to concentrate on its core business and thus will
benefit from ALSTOM's technological expertise and worldwide
experience in the field of T&D whilst modernising and
broadening the scope of activities of its industrial workshops
which will form the operational base of the new company. ALTM
will invest approximately 11 million euros (20 million reals)
in workshop upgrading and setting up of on-site services.

In the context of current strong momentum in the Brazilian
electricity sector and the emergence of new market
opportunities occuring as a result of industry consolidation,
ALTM will be well positioned to benefit from profitable growth
especially in the field of global service provision to large
industrial customers and electricity suppliers, particularly in
the State of Rio de Janeiro.

ALTM plans to double its activity over a 3 year period to
become one of the leaders in its field in Brazil.
