ALSTOM and Durr reach an understanding for the sale of
ALSTOM automotive and painting systems

Dürr AG, Stuttgart, through its subsidiary Dürr
Systems GmbH, will acquire a 50 % stake in the automotive and
painting systems activity of ALSTOM, and will also take over
the management. Full acquisition of this activity will be
possible in March 2001. The participation and acquisition are
subject to the agreement of the relevant authorities.

ALSTOM Automotive and Painting Systems is one of the leading
suppliers of painting lines and assembly lines to the
automotive and general industries. It has operations in France,
Germany, the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Spain and Italy. It employs
approximately 650 people and has estimated sales of 210 million
euros for the fiscal year April 1999 to March 2000.

The Dürr Group is the world's leading supplier of
automobile paint finishing systems and manufacturing support
services to the automotive industry. With operations in over 20
countries, the Group achieved sales of about 1.05 billion euros
in 1998, and employs over 6500 people.
