ALSTOM to provide passenger locomotives to New Jersey
transit in the USA

The Board of Directors of New Jersey Transit Corporation
(NJT) has recently voted to award to ALSTOM a 188 million euro
contract for the design and manufacture of a fleet of 33 new
diesel-electric passenger locomotives, spare parts and an
option for an additional 5 locomotives.

The design of the locomotives, which will be based on
ALSTOM's proven PRIMATM technology, will be carried out by
ALSTOM in collaboration with the Electro-Motive Division (EMD)
of General Motors. The locomotives will be manufactured in
ALSTOM's facility in Hornell, New York.

Michel Moreau, President of ALSTOM's Transport Sector, said

serve the needs of New Jersey Transit and Northeast commuters.
For this order, we are adapting to North American needs the
proven ALSTOM PRIMATM locomotive to meet current and future US
performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements. This
award is a major accomplishment in the strategy of ALSTOM to
provide a full range of products and services to the US
passenger rail business.'

ALSTOM is currently providing new Comet V rail coaches for
the expanding NJT fleet under a separate contract.

NJT is the third-largest provider of bus, rail, and
light-rail transit in the US, linking major points in New
Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia.
