Belgian Railways has inaugurated the first 12 in an order of
210 double-deck “M6” coaches built by a consortium
composed of ALSTOM and Bombardier Transportation. ALSTOM is
technical leader for this order, shared equally between the two
consortium members.

The SNCB placed the order for the state-of-the-art coaches to
boost its intercity service to and from Brussels, especially in
high-traffic periods, and to renew its fleet. SNCB passengers
will benefit from easy access, air-conditioned interiors,
increased space for baggage and a quiet ride afforded by the
noise-limiting design.

The trainsets may be configured to include up to 12 coaches
with a total of 1,576 seats and will have a top speed of 160
kmh.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in over 60
countries, ALSTOM's Transport Sector offers cutting-edge
products and services to four distinct types of customers:
urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger
rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport Sector, with 4.4 billion euros in sales in
2001, is among the world's leading suppliers to the railway
industry.
