A consortium composed of ALSTOM LHB and Bombardier
Transportation has been awarded a contract by Hamburger Hochbahn
AG for the manufacture of a sixth series of underground vehicles
of the type DT4. The follow-up order worth about 60 million euros
includes 15 trainsets, with a share of 31 million euros for the
consortium leader, ALSTOM, and 29 million euros for Bombardier.
ALSTOM LHB in Salzgitter, Germany, is supplying car bodies,
bogies and brake systems. Bombardier in Mannheim is responsible
for the electrical equipment.

Said Ulrich Sieg, member of the Management Board of the
Hochbahn, Railway Traffic Division:
'With the new DT4.6, the Hochban, ALSTOM and Bombardier set
further standards for the manufacture of railway vehicles: a
safe, modern, silent and environmentally friendly underground
vehicle for Hamburg. Due to this order for 15 new trainsets of
the successful DT4 series, passenger comfort will be further
increased.'

Following the final delivery of the previous series, DT 4.5,
of the same design, the new four-unit trainsets will be delivered
between March 2004 and April 2005. The brake systems and the
traction and control technology of the new series are state of
the art, and the underground vehicles fulfil the same high
environmental standards as the vehicles of the previous series,
with recyclability of up to about 95 per cent and an extremely
low noise level.

Since the signature of the initial contract in 1986, the
Hochbahn has ordered a total of 126 DT4 vehicles from the
manufacturing consortium, and 92 trainsets have already been
delivered. The high technical standard of the new underground
vehicles is mainly guaranteed by the good cooperation between
ALSTOM/Bombardier and the Hochbahn.

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in over 60
countries, ALSTOM's Transport Sector offers cutting-edge
products and services to four distinct types of customers:
urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger
rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport Sector, with 4.4 billion euros in sales in
2001, is among the world's leading suppliers to the railway
industry.
