ALSTOM announces the launch of the next generation Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), a marriage of the OCCTM design with Once-Through evaporator technology developed by Siemens. With this development, ALSTOM can continue to provide the most technologically advanced HRSGs with high efficiency, superior performance in high-cycling applications, and ease of field erection at a competitive price.
With over 30 Once-Through HRSGs in service, ALSTOM is already the world leader in providing Once-Through HRSGs for large, advanced gas turbines in combined cycle applications. Now ALSTOM can offer Once-Through HRSGs with all of the features of the OCCTM design for optimized cycling and constructability.
The key advantage of a Once-Through evaporator on an HRSG is the elimination of the thermally sluggish, high-pressure steam drum. The Siemens technology, developed at the Cottam Development Centre in the U.K., uses a horizontal gas flow, vertical tube arrangement for the evaporator. In addition to the elimination of the steam drum, this design provides improved cost effectiveness and the ability to provide a Once-Through HRSG in standardised heat exchange modules that integrate perfectly with ALSTOMs proven OCCTM design concept.
The OCCTM design has the following features for reducing thermal stresses during cyclic operations:
- Single row of tubes between headers
- Finned tubes with no bends
- Flexible connections between pressure part sections
- Elimination of division walls inside headers
- High creep strength materials in high temperature areas
- Small diameter headers
- Multiple header connections to promote uniform flow and metal temperatures in superheater and reheater sections
- Enhanced drain arrangement to prevent condensate flooding of superheat and reheat sections during gas turbine purge
In addition, the Once-Through OCCTM design can be packaged and delivered in the following modularity options:
- Harp bundles where transportation is restricted, large cranes are scarce and site labor is inexpensive
- Pressure part modules where transportation is less restricted and large cranes are available
- C-Frame Modules (pressure parts integrated with support steel and casing) - where transportation is unrestricted, large cranes are available and site labor is expensive.
