In July, ALSTOM Transport S.A. and all the trade union
organisations signed an agreement concerning the employment of
people with disabilities. The company pledged to encourage the
hiring, integration and training of people with disabilities, to
keep them employed long-term and to increase outsourcing to the
protected sector. Since then, all the sites have been pitching in
and doing their part.
Since the start of the year, nine employment contracts have been
signed (permanent, temporary and training) in the Production,
Quality, Human Resources and Management departments, and five are
being concluded.
In the areas of
integration and training, the sites have forged
ties with various advocacy organisations, federations and
associations in order to make ALSTOM Transport a place where
trainees, temporary workers and permanent employees with
disabilities feel at home.
Various sites are also:
- Building access ramps or having estimates drawn up for
their construction - Adapting bathrooms
- Setting up special machines in protected areas for the
manufacturing of some products
The same efforts are under way to
keep disabled people on the job. Sites are
purchasing equipment (amplified phones, chairs, etc.), helping
employees buy hearing aids, creating parking spaces, adapting
workstations, working hours and tools, fitting automobiles and so
on. Information and communication are increasing, medical teams
and Health, Safety and Working Condition Committees are becoming
involved, department heads are participating and working groups
are forming to help move the projects forward.
Outsourcing and the purchase of equipment and services
from the protected sector are on the rise at some sites
and being organised at others. Pallets, office supplies, precut
sheet metalwork, screws and bolts, kits, packaging, blocks and
wedges, small assemblies, resin mouldings and ceramic glue are
directly purchased or subcontracted from these companies. ALSTOM
Transport is also gradually giving them certain administrative
and communication tasks. New contracts are being negotiated and
canvassing is under way: ALSTOM Transport FRANCE has increased
the working hours outsourced to the protected sector by over
€200K since early this year.
Players involved in implementing the agreement on employing
people with disabilities are emerging everywhere. Handicapped
employees are making suggestions and an ALSTOM Transport brochure
is in the production stages. All these activities, which often
take place behind the scenes, show that the company is doing its
part at all levels and has every reason to feel proud during
national employment of people with disabilities week.
