The entry into international service of the Czech Pendolinos
evidences the work Alstom has been doing in respect of
interoperability. The Pendolinos delivered to the Czech Republic
are capable of running on a range of national railway networks,
each with its own power supply, and come equipped with a
signalling control system compatible with the ERTMS (European
Rail Traffic Management System) standard. As regards regulatory issues, the Pendolino has been
authorised to run on European high-speed networks since Alstom
was awarded a certificate of high-speed TSI (technical
specification of interoperability) compliance in Prague on
November 16
th, 2006, by the EBC (Eisenbahn-Cert), one of the
notified bodies recognized by the European Commission. The
Pendolino has also been issued with national licences allowing it
to operate in the Slovak Republic, Germany and Austria. The Czech Pendolino fleet currently consists of 7 trains,
which have been operating for the past year in the Czech
Republic. Their tilting technology allows them to lean at angles
of up to 8 degrees, enabling them to operate at speeds 30% to 35%
higher than conventional trains. Equipped with fast acceleration
and braking capabilities, they can also be used on existing
infrastructures, allowing the high-speed network to be extended
nationally without the need for additional infrastructure
investment. More than 420 trains equipped with tilting technology
currently operate around the world. Press contact:Clotilde Provostclotilde.provost@transport.alstom.com+33 1 41 66 91 43
