Star billing for the Paris tramway

The T3 is the first tramway to operate in Paris since 1937.
The 8 kilometre-long line crosses three districts in the south of
the French capital (13
^th, 14
^th and 15
^th), from Porte dIvry (13
^th district) to Pont du Garigliano (15
^th). This means of public transport, electrical and on
rails, silent and non-polluting, will replace an overloaded bus
service along the Boulevards des Maréchaux. Operating at an
average of 20km/h, 21 tramsets will ply this grass-lined route,
punctuated by 17 stations. The tramways will run seven days a
week between 5am and half past midnight and every 4 minutes
during rush hour. 100,000 passengers are expected to use the T3
each day. Launched in the year 2000, the project has required
three years of works and represents a total investment of 311.5
million euros.

During the inauguration ceremony, Jean-Michel PRAUD and
Pascal VILLENEUVE, employees at Alstom Altré, were present
to represent all colleagues and technicians who worked on the
tramway and its subassemblies at Aytré, Le Creusot, Ornans,
Tarbes and Villeurbanne. Both were warmly thanked and
congratulated by Patrick Kron and Philippe Mellier. In total,
around 400 employees participated in the development of the T3.
