ALSTOM today unveiled test results that show that upgrades
to its GT26 advanced gas turbine can operate with up to 59% net
efficiency, when in combined cycle mode, making it the
worlds best machine in its class.
Tests carried out at the companys GT26 test power
plant at Birr show that upgrades to the GT26 engines
compressor give an increase in performance of the turbine of 7.3
MW, taking the output to 288 MW without a change in firing
temperature.
In conjunction with improvements in the water steam cycle,
ALSTOM can now offer the GT26 in a single-shaft combined cycle
power plant with a net output of 424 MW. In a multi-shaft 2-on-1
configuration ALSTOM can offer an integrated cycle solution with
858 MW and an exceptional rate of 59% net efficiency. This is the
best efficiency rate for combined cycle plant in this class,
and a significant step in ALSTOM approaching 60% with the
existing engine platforms.
ALSTOM has also upgraded its medium-sized conventional GT13E2 gas
turbine. Upgrades to both the compressor and one of the turbine
blades gives an increase in power of 7.7MW plus 0.5% higher
efficiency. The engine exerts 180 MW power at 36.9% efficiency,
without an increase in firing temperature. The GT13E2 is
currently the most efficient conventional gas turbine in the
medium-sized market. These most recent improvements to the GT13E2 and the GT26
engines are a reflection of ALSTOMs evolutionary approach
to technology development. The upgrades themselves concentrate on
a increase in mass flow achieved through minor changes to the
existing compressor. All this is possible without the
introduction of new technology.Should you have any media inquiries about this press release, do not hesitate to contact our team.
