ALSTOM demonstrates ERTMS* leadership to European
press

Over 60 journalists from Europe’s economic,
generalist and specialist press in 23 countries
attended seminars, visits as well as live demonstrations
of the system which is set to revolutionise pan-European rail
travel. They also travelled aboard the emblematic Rome - Naples
line, the first very high speed line equipped with a level 2
ERTMS system.
ERTMS aims to standardise the 23 different signalling
systems in Europe and to establish a single system to, notably,
make border crossing easier and remedy the fragmentary nature
of the European railway market.
Since the birth of the “single European railway
market” idea in the 1990s, ALSTOM has been at the
forefront of interoperability development and implementation in
Europe. As such, Transport has been involved in the preparation
of not only ERTMS’ technical specifications but also the
system’s validation on 6 pilot lines.
ALSTOM is currently the only railway constructor able to
offer customers a comprehensive range of fully operational
ERTMS solutions : ATLASTM.
