Alstom strengthens Power Service business in India

Alstom today announced plans to strengthen its Power Service business in India through investments in an expanded service workshop, and an increase in manpower of up to 20 per cent of both skilled labour and engineers over the next two years. 

 

Walter Graenicher, President, Alstom Power Service, shared Alstoms plans during a visit to India this week. Commenting on the forthcoming expansion of power service capabilities at the companys Vadodara facility, Mr Graenicher said, Our customers require the most efficient power plant maintenance and minimal downtime. Alstom has the largest installed equipment base and the widest range of power plant services. Our capabilities cover the complete range of power plants: steam, gas turbine and industrial plant. With India moving towards super-critical technologies, the Power Service market in India is entering a strong growth period. Through the investments we are making, Alstom is in a great position to realise this potential. 

We have already built a strong base at our facility in Vadodara for the enhancement of our power service capabilities. Alstom pioneers the introduction of technologically-advanced equipment for its operations globally. In India, the addition of Alstoms High Speed Balancing Tunnel, suitable for all rotating equipment, is an example of the world-class equipment we are offering to Indian customers, added Mr Graenicher.

Focusing on plans to enhance the training and development of Power Service personnel, Mr Frederic Lalanne, Managing Director & Vice Chairman, Alstom Projects India Ltd, said, India is an important market for Alstoms Power Service business and at the same time offers a vast talent pool. We will continue to expand our team of engineers who cater to Indian as well as global requirements.

Alstom Power Service in India 

Alstoms Power Service Sector currently employs 250 people in India operating out of eight different locations.

Alstom offers unique value throughout the lifecycle of the plant, having a full range of service solutions tailored to customer needs. At present, Power Service sales constitute nearly 16% of Alstoms total business in India, amounting to 3000 million (INR).

In Kolkata, Alstom has a technical hub for boiler and environment products, catering for the Indian and South East Asian markets, both in terms of sales and service requirements and product development. Alstoms extended service portfolio will include:

  • Developing a clean facility for large generator repairs.
  • Enhancing the capacity to balance machines by adding state-of-the-art new pedestals for high speed (up to 14000 RPM).
  • Meeting stringent technical requirements for shot peening of nuclear turbines.
  • Upgrading a modern facility for the bend removal of turbine rotors.

 

Alstoms Power Service Sector customers include all power generating companies in India, all state electricity boards, IPPS, and industrial customers in the cement, paper and aluminium industries. Alstom has already completed environmental upgrades at NTPC, PSEB, MSEB plants, with exceptional operational results.
