The aim of these annual meetings is to foster student
interest in industry-related technologies. For Alstom, they
offer a means of informing people about its activities in
developing cutting-edge technologies and to position itself as
an attractive employer.
Railways, presented as a very high technology sector, aroused a
lot of interest. Questions such as: is there a speed limit on
rails? Will trains one day operate at 500km/h? Is the
record-breaking train based on breakthrough technologies or on
a standard progression from current technology? were addressed
during the question & answer session that followed the
presentation.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the astronaut Jean-Loup
Chrétien, the racing driver Henri Pescarolo, the explorer
Gilles Elkaïm, the windsurfer Raphaëla Le Gouvello,
and Gérard Jugie, director of the Institut Paul Emile
Victor, to share their experiences of extreme performance and
to link sporting achievement to technological advances in the
materials on which they rely.
