Founded on long-standing, successful partnerships and respectful relationships with the Chinese authorities, Alstoms acquisition of a 51% majority shareholding of Wuhan Boiler Company Ltd. has recently been approved.
Alstom and WBC: A partnership based on mutual benefit
By combining their capabilities, WBC and Alstom will serve both the domestic and the export market, enabling an increase in the availability of Alstom products in the Chinese power market as well as providing a strategic base for Alstoms expansion in the global market. WBC will benefit from Alstoms technology leadership in boilers and environmental offerings. Alstoms global presence will provide WBC with access to markets abroad, enabling an expansion of market share and access to advanced technology, particularly in the area of clean power.
Growing with state-of-the-art power technology
Looking towards a future of clean power in China, a new centre of excellence for utility boilers is being planned within the next two years. Located South East of Wuhan, in the East Lake development zone, the proposed factory will accommodate a 6000 sqm laboratory in which around 40 engineers, research fellows and Academics will conduct R&D activities on material, coal and ash analysis. In tandem with its Chinese partner, Alstom will develop the most advanced technologies and high quality boilers, accompanying China in meeting environmental regulations and reducing emissions. WBC will be able to maintain its domestic market position while developing export potential.
Tapping full growth potential together
Accompanying Chinas increased demand for power, Government Energy Policies plan to tighten controls on air pollution. Emission standards for existing plants are to take effect over the next 4-5 years. Coal plays a central role in Chinese electricity generation, employing millions of people and meeting Chinas power demands. With Alstoms clean power technology, WBC will be able to respond to the Chinese markets increasing need for boilers while addressing environmental protection issues, in particular by cutting emissions and improving the efficiency of power plants.
