Alstom Transport promotes employment for the
disabled

Many events are taking place at Alstom Transport's 12
locations in France, including site tours, presentation of the
sites' various occupations to professional reinsertion
companies and disabled jobseekers, participation in trade shows
and job fairs in Besançon, Toulouse and Lyon, and
introductory sign language workshops.
Alstom's active participation in ‘Employment for the
Disabled’ week is part of the Handicap agreement signed
in July 2006 to promote the recognition, hiring and advancement
of disabled workers. The agreement was signed between Alstom
Transport and all trade unions – CFDT, CFTC, CFE-CGC, CGT
and FO.
Nearly three years after entering into the agreement, Alstom
Transport has achieved significant results. On the employment
front, 51 disabled workers have been hired. A total of
€485,000 has been invested to retain disabled employees
by such means as adapting workplaces (access ramps, lifts,
toilets) and providing financial support for the purchase of
hearing aids and the adaptation of vehicles. Alstom sites have
also developed partnerships with the sheltered employment
sector: over €1 million in orders have been placed
(sorting of defective parts, wiring, groundskeeping,
translation, printing and reprography, etc.). Lastly,
information and awareness campaigns were conducted at the
different sites, and included brochures on the Handicap
agreement, posters in reception areas, information sessions by
company doctors and news bulletins.
"Many concrete steps have been taken over the past three years
and others are underway, but there is more to do. Raising
awareness, encouragement and working together towards a common
goal are essential to our commitment so that everyone is fully
aware of the challenge facing the company," says Bruno

Resources.
