Alstom has signed a contract agreement with Raymond Saudi Arabia Ltd.
valued at 21 million euros to engineer, supply and deliver key
components and technology for the retrofit of 4 x 400 MW boilers at the
Ghazlan Power Plant, located on the coast of the Arabian Gulf of the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Raymond is the chief contractor chosen by Saudi Electricity Company Eastern Region (SEC) to provide all local services for the installation of components and equipment. The contract between SEC and Raymond was signed on 30 June 2008.
The aim of this retrofit is to improve the operating conditions of the boilers and to extend their operating life. Following installation by Raymond, the retrofit boilers for units 1 and 2 are scheduled to be operational in March and June 2011, respectively, and in March and June 2012, respectively, for units 3 and 4.
Alstom is certified for the rehabilitation and life extension work on this project, an acknowledgement of our unique capabilities to perform retrofits without being the original equipment manufacturer of the boilers, Patrick Fragman, Managing Director of Alstoms Environmental Boiler Retrofits said. This contract is a great opportunity for Alstom to showcase its capabilities in a part of the world where retrofitting remains an exception. We are planning to develop the boiler retrofit business in this region.
