ALSTOM Carbon Capture GmbH has
extensive experience in numerous fields of chemical processing
applications, especially for the oil & gas, petrochemical and
chemical processing industries.

The unit consists of over 100
employees with the full set of skills and capabilities required
for the design and turnkey delivery of CO
2 capture plants based on considerable experience
gained in its traditional markets.

This acquisition will enable Alstom
to make its CO
2 capture technologies available to its customers with
greater responsiveness and efficiency, as the issue of greenhouse
gas abatement and the need for CO
2 capture and storage becomes ever more immediate. It
will support the increasing demand for studies, FEED* packages,
pilot plants and demonstration units driven by the need to
accelerate the commercialisation of effective and efficient large
scale CCS facilities.

Andreas Lusch, Senior Vice President
and Head of Thermal Systems at Alstom Power, declared:
ALSTOM Carbon Capture GmbH will be a great asset to the
Alstom group. Alstom is committed to leading the industrial fight
against climate change by providing its customers with smart CO
2 capture solutions, which complements our broad
offering of integrated solutions for new and existing power
plants, for both renewable and more traditional
energies.

Alstom is a global leader in the
development of CO
2 capture technology and is currently involved in ten
major CCS demonstration projects, with four pilot projects
completed, two in construction and four under various stages of
study. Alstom has formed partnerships with WE Energies, EPRI, AEP
and The Dow Chemical Company in the USA, E.ON in Sweden,
Vattenfall in Germany and Total in France. Alstom has also signed
a contract with StatoilHydro for a CO
2 capture demonstration plant at Mongstad in Norway,
using Alstoms chilled ammonia technology, and is actively
working with PGE Elektrownia Belchatow on a large scale CCS
project based on advanced amines. Most recently, Alstom and
TransAlta have launched Project Pioneer in Canada, a large-scale
chilled ammonia demonstration facility designed to capture and
store 1 million tonnes of CO
2 per year.
