23rd 25th October, Alstom Grid participated in the second edition of Russia's UpGrid exhibition focusing on innovative equipment solutions for electric distribution grids. This event sponsored by the Federal Grid Company - took place in the Crocus Expo Exhibition Hall in Moscow, Russia, and also hosted the International forum "UpGrid 2012". Gerhard Seyrling, Vice-President Alstom Grid for the Central and Eastern Europe and Russia region, delivered a speech during the panel discussion "Future grids: new horizons of new power energy".
During the UpGrid Forum, Alstom Grid and Federal Grid Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of innovation policy in Russia. Partners will consider developing digital substation projects based on Alstom Grid technologies, with a view to creating a Smart Grid cluster at Federal Grid's substation in the Volga region.
Within the scope of the agreement, Alstom Grid and Federal Grid Company will also consider to join forces for the development of a Russian testing centre for electrical equipment, including primary equipment, automation, control and dispatch. The two companies will continue to cooperate on the HVDC projects interconnecting Russia and European countries, and the NPP projects in the Baltic region.
Alstom Grid also signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with Federal Grid's R&D subsidiary in the field of science, new products and technologies, as well as the certification of Alstom Grid's equipment in Russia.
Alstom Grid's leading position in technologies for digital substations was underlined by winning the third place in the category "Best Innovative Idea". This Innovations Contest was organized during UpGrid by Federal Grid. Alstom was the only foreign company to take a poll position out of the 84 domestic and foreign companies who presented their solutions. The results of the contest will serve as the basis for the annual "Innovative Asset of the Russian Electric Utility Industry" publication that will be distributed to the Russian government, general public and business.
