On 18th September, Trápaga was the focus of the award ceremony of the 21 scholarships foreseen for students enrolled in different training centres around the region. Of these, four were granted by Alstom: two at intermediate technical level and two at advanced technical level in electricity, electronics or mechanical engineering.

These grants, which include work placements in companies, came to light so that youngsters within the age group of being able to study can do so rather than having to work without sufficient training in low-level occupations. 50% of the grants were delivered yesterday at the beginning of the course and 50% upon delivery of the grades, once having passed all the subjects. The intermediate level scholars obtain 1,500 euros and and those in the advanced grade 2,000 euros.

Alstom Power, which has an industrial centre specializing in hydro power in the Basque town, signed an agreement in June 2012 with the City of Trápaga (Vizcaya) to reinforce Alstom's commitment to society. As part of the CSR policy, the company is committed to the training of young people as a key tool to reduce high levels of youth unemployment. The initiative also aims to recover the shape and spirit of the ancient schools of apprentices which generated many industrial jobs in the area in previous decades.
