EDF Polska S.A. and ALSTOM Power Sp. z o.o. have signed a contract to reduce the NOx emissions of EDF Wybrzee power plant based in Gdask. The scope of the contract includes engineering, procurement, delivery, erection and commissioning of the Low NOx solution.

The project will ensure that the NOx emissions from the plant are meeting the European Union requirements as set forth in the Industrial Emissions Directive. The project will be implemented by the Polish Thermal Services organisation in collaboration with the global Alstom Thermal Services technical product line.

The scope of work includes the implementation of the Low NOx solution on four EDF Wybrzee boilers. NOx emissions reduction from the power plant in Gdansk from 500-550 mg/Nm3 to less than 200 mg/Nm3 will be achieved through the application of primary (modernised combustions systems) and secondary (application of urea injection technologies) methods. The plant will thus help minimise the urea injection volume, yielding significant savings on urea consumption and to further lower the environmental footprint.

This contract is a part of a EDF Group program in Poland aiming at improving the air quality and modernising the existing production assets to assure, at the long run, the security of energy supply for the Tricity.

The commissioning of the Low NOx solution is scheduled at the end of 2015.
