Alstom Grid displays its latest generation of T155 gas-insulated substation (GIS) at the 2013 GCC Power in Abu Dhabi, taking place from 18 to 20 November. The T155 is designed to meet the future challenges of electrical networks up to 420 kV, 63 kA, 5000/6300A. All applications are ideally covered: power generation, transmission and heavy industry.

The substation, which is 40% more compact than its previous version, has a reduced footprint, and is easier to access at ground level. The reduced size is mainly due to the single-chamber circuit-breaker that requires less energy to operate, reliably provided by a pure spring drive. The bays are assembled and tested in factory for the most stringent quality checks, easier transport and erection times are reduced by 30%.

With this product, Alstom sets the world benchmark in digital substations. Embedded digital monitoring and control functions communicate via the IEC 61850 protocol, making the solutions fully digital with all the benefits that this entails: interoperability, ease of configuration, reliability, availability, real-time operation, enhanced communications capabilities and reduced costs of ownership. All the asset health data is collected through the monitoring and can be compiled and analysed becoming a key part of the decision making when maintaining or replacing equipment.

Jean Nakache, Alstom Grid Vice-President for GIS said: We created the T155 with our customers in mind and based on continuous interaction with them. It is the latest success in Alstom Grids 45 years experience in GIS technology, a welcome new addition to the existing 20,000 bays now installed in 100 countries.

Alstom Grid is also committed to implementing greener products and the new Alstom T155 is no different. Its SF6-sealing technology and expert digital monitoring prevents gas from being released into the environment and eco-design principles used at every stage of product development ensure that its environmental impact is reduced by 15% when compared to previous models.
