Alstom has recently joined the Smart City Council (SCC) based in the United States, as Lead Partner. As a worldwide market leader in IT systems and solutions for managing energy, Alstom brings its expertise to accelerate the transition to smart and sustainable cities.

Smart City Council is an advisor and market accelerator, promoting the move to smart, sustainable cities. The smart city market prospective has significant growth in the short term. A forecast by ABI Research[1] predicts the market to reach at least $39.5 billion by 2018. Pike Research[2], on the other hand, forecasts that investment in this key technology infrastructure could total up to $108 billion between 2010 and 2020.

SCC has just released the Readiness Guide at the Smart Cities Exhibition (SMART CITY EXPO 2013) in Barcelona. This guide is the first comprehensive vendor-neutral smart city handbook for city leaders and planners, designed with input from leading smart city and urban planning experts. The guide covers economic development, energy, telecommunications, transportation, public safety, and water and wastewater barriers.
