Alstom has won a contract by the Tekniska verken in Linköping for a turnkey delivery of a flue gas treatment and heat recovery system for their new waste-to- energy plant in Gärstad. Alstom's advanced flue gas cleaning system will reduce emissions well below EU requirements and also recover heat for the district heating system in Linköping.
Linköping is a growing city that needs to secure energy access. A Waste-to-Energy plant produces both heat and electricity simultaneously and is a resource-efficient way of converting energy. The new facility at Gärstad outside Linköping will primarily use waste as fuel, resources that would otherwise have been lost. Tekniska verken has for a long time been working to phase out fossil fuels from its production mix and the new CHP plant will mean a reduction in annual carbon emissions equivalent to that from 30,000 cars.
- Alstom had the best offer and technical solution for our new facility and we look forward to a good cooperation with Alstom during project implementation, said Mile Elez, Head of Tekniska verken in Linköping.
The delivery of the flue gas treatment system includes an Alstom NID semi-dry cleaning step, cleaning the gases by injecting lime and activated carbon. The process removes and prevents most of the hazardous substances of the combustion process from reaching the environment. The NID system is followed by a scrubber and a flue gas as well as cleans the flue gas further and recovers valuable energy to the district heating network. Commissioning of the new power plant is scheduled for 2016.
- This order is very important for Alstom and is a further confirmation that the market appreciates our technology and extensive experience in waste, says Mats Thimansson, Site Manager at Alstom in Växjö.The project will be led by Alstom's Environmental Control Systems Waste to Energy Competence center in Växjö.
