Alstoms Rugby-based Thermal Services unit has won its 1,000th cylinder retrofit contract by scooping an order to retrofit four Dongfang DEC600 MW steam turbine units in China.

The companys Rugby site is global lead centre for retrofits of steam turbines, which produce electricity in power stations, with the business doing extremely well all around the world, particularly in growing the global oOEM retrofit market.

The latest China contract was won following efforts to deliver class leading technical solutions developed between two Rugby-based units, the Steam Turbine Product Centre and the R&D critical technology for Steam Turbine Retrofit & Upgrade Integration.

Gary Holloway, Head of Technical Tendering, said: A reputation for delivering on our promises in steam turbine retrofits continues to be critical to our success and often leading to further orders.

Alstom teams in Rugby are currently retrofitting the low pressure turbines at six units owned by Southern Company in the USA, including four turbine units at Miller Power Plant. The contract builds on Alstoms previous success in retrofitting the high pressure turbines at Miller in the 1990s.
