Alstom Grid has been nominated for the Product Innovation Awards in Energy Storage as the industry gears up for the upcoming European Utility Week early November in Amsterdam, with over 350 solution provider showcasing innovation at the exhibition. The winners of the EUW Product Innovation Awards will be announced on 5 November, 2014.

Alstom's nominated entry is MaxSineTM eStorage, a smart converter solution for energy storage selected according to 4 main criteria: innovative originality, practicality, sustainability and design. The smart solution connects batteries to the electrical network, at medium or high voltage, and gives operators the ability to 'save' and control electricity for future use.

MaxSineTM eStorage is a sustainable solution that directly addresses today's energy challenges, increasing energy efficiency and minimising power flow losses throughout the network. It supports and accelerates the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources by balancing energy flow in real-time according to consumer demand. The aim is to develop affordable, cost-effective and resource-efficient solutions to decarbonise the energy network.

The solution has been deployed to Nice Grid, one of the largest smart grid demonstration projects in France, handling megawatt-scale storage since December 2013. It will also be delivered in the coming weeks to south of Paris in Les Renardières, EDF's R&D laboratory dedicated to the development of grids and smart electrical systems, and will be used for frequency regulation.
