The second annual event held in Wilmington, DE included over 300 attendees from the regions high-tech business community.  The all-day event included networking sessions and working groups to encourage and support women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math) fields.  Several of Alstoms STEM professionals participated.

Ericson gave the opening keynote speech and was introduced by U.S. Senator Coons.  The Senator is a strong supporter of STEM education and advocate for public policies supporting innovation in clean energy.  Ericson spoke of the strategic value of weaving diversity into a technology workforce in terms of benefit to corporate innovation and competitiveness.

She advised attendees to take advantage of every opportunity to build their skills, not only technical, but leadership, team interaction and communication.  She also spoke of the increasing importance of being able to work across global borders and embracing cultural diversity as well as gender diversity.

Technology shapes society and society shapes technology, she said, adding, we need to educate, listen, learn and engage to understand the relationship between what we do in STEM and how it impacts those around us.  Ericson closed her keynote by challenging everyone in the audience to reach out to the next generation of STEM talent.
