Alstoms first locally assembled point machines delivered to Kazakhstan Railways

The first 30 point machines based on Alstom technology have been produced at JV KazElectroprivod, the 50/50 joint venture between Alstom and Kamkor located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. They were delivered to the Technical and Material Centre of the Kazakhstan Railways in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. This is the first batch assembled in the country, marking the start of local manufacturing.

Alstom started its signalling activity in Kazakhstan through JV KazElectroPrivod in 2013 after signing a contract with KTZ for the supply of 10,000 point machines over a 10-year period. So far, 1,500 point machines have been supplied to the customer and installed to replace old equipment. Most of them were manufactured at Alstom's site in Bologna and shipped to Kazakhstan to execute the contract until the Almaty-based facility was ready to start local manufacturing. After ramp-up, the new plant will have the capacity to produce 1,500 point machines per year. To implement the localization process, Alstom has sent Kazakh employees to the site in Bologna for local training. In addition to manufacturing point machines, JV KazElektroPrivod is expected to expand its activities in the near future to become a signalling centre capable of implementing signalling projects in Kazakhstan through the development of local engineering expertise.
