Alstom has announced plans for the creation of a second new facility in Redhill, Stafford. This state of the art facility will house Alstoms High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Systems operations. Together with the Automation division, the facility will be completed by early 2017.

Following on from the plans it announced late last year to move its Automation business to Redhill Business Park, the company has now applied to build a new facility for its HVDC and Systems operations which will move from their existing St Leonards site.

The business, which helps companies across the world transport power over hundreds of miles while minimising losses, will also build a Valve Test Facility at the transformer factory in Lichfield Road, using a grant from the Governments Regional Growth Fund.

Terence Watson, Alstoms UK President, said: This is good news for Alstom and good news for Stafford. We get brand new state-of-the-art facilities for two of our divisions while also staying in Stafford, which has been our home for so many years. Were also delighted to be able to announce plans for a new facility to test some of our most hi-tech equipment thats in use by customers across the world.

Staffordshire County Councils economy leader Mark Winnington said: In December Alstom announced that it was locating part of its operation to the Redhill business park which was fantastic news for Stafford and the county as it demonstrated the companys commitment to this area. Now we will see further development by Alstom at Redhill which is an added bonus. Having a global leader in this sector expanding its operations and cementing its base in Staffordshire is great for the county and the region.

Leader of Stafford Borough Council, Councillor Patrick Farrington, said: We have worked very closely with Alstom over a number of years to ensure their future in Stafford. So we are delighted to hear they will be creating a second facility at the Redhills site which will meet their needs and secure their long term future and that of their employees. The decision further demonstrates the attraction that our County Town has for leaders in the global engineering industry.

The new facility will be developed by global integrated property group, Goodman.
