Alstom T&D India has been awarded a contract worth approximately 16 million (INR 1088 million) by Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (PowerGrid) to supply ten 765 kV 500 MVA 1-ph auto transformers. These will be installed at two locations, the 765 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) situated at Vemagiri, Andhra Pradesh and 765 kV Air Insulated substation (AIS) at Vindhyachal, Uttar Pradesh. All equipment will be manufactured and supplied from Alstom T&D Indias world class manufacturing facility at Vadodara.

Indias southern grid has been facing significant power shortages over the last few years due to inadequate transmission capacity from the rest of the grid. The transformers located at Vindhyachal will help transmit power from the surplus energy in the northern region to southern region. In addition, the transformers installed at Vemagiri will strengthen the transmission system of the southern grid.

Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India said, In India, Alstom is the market leader in the transmission segment for the last seven years in a row. The company has also achieved the remarkable feat of being the only Indian company to have over 4 years experience in manufacturing of 765 kV transformers and reactors with localised technology. Alstom has the largest market share for 765 kV transformers and reactors in India, significantly contributing in building a robust transmission backbone in the country.

Alstom T&D Indias green field facility at Vadodara was inaugurated in March 2009. This facility has since ramped up production capabilities to supply more than 200 units of 765 kV transformers and shunt reactors to various clients like PowerGrid, state utilities and private generating companies.

With strong references up to 800 kV and 2750 MVA in major power networks worldwide, Alstom Grid is one of the world leaders in the manufacturing of electrical power transformers and reactors.
