Whitepaper: from Mainline Signalling to Digital Automation

Looking towards the future, we see that railway systems are engaging in a transformation, in which rail networks and their trains will become a 4th Industrial Revolution distributed automated system. This will make the network and train management 100% digital and intelligent, freeing the investment capability of managers and operators, while significantly improving the quality of service for their customers. As a result of this transformation, digital and automated control and signalling centres, supported by ERTMS, will be software-intensive systems driving network performance.
