At the heart of Alstom's CSR in India lies a commitment to shaping resilient, future-ready communities. We invest strategically in education, skilling, and healthcare, create pathways for socio-economic mobility and resilience, champion sustainable mobility and innovation, and safeguard the planet by protecting natural resources and enhancing environmental quality.

  • 3D printing spares for Trenitalia, Italy

Alstom has a contract with Italian operator Trenitalia to supply 3D-printed polymer spares. Trenitalia is benefiting from lead-time savings, cash savings (with no minimum order quantity or fixed costs), hard inventory reduction with Alstom’s digital warehouse, and a 15% carbon footprint reduction.

  • Obsolescence management for Santiago Metro, Chile

The fleet of Metropolis NS93 used in Santiago was built by Alstom in 1993, and is composed of 34 trains, 236 cars. As the onboard control system, designed 30 years ago, became obsolete, Metro Santiago started facing unavailability risks. Alstom developed a solution strategy for the customer to mitigate risks associated with increased lifecycle costs and system availability, modernising the NS93 fleet, replacing the main electronic boards of the system, and providing technical assistance for a duration of 20 years.

  • SFMTA Vendor-Managed Inventory, USA

For nearly 10 years, Alstom has been ensuring the availability of spare parts for San Francisco’s light-rail, street-car and cable-car fleets. After a first award in 2013 for a five-year contract, SFMTA renewed its trust in Alstom in 2018 for a three-year period and in 2021 for an additional two years. With this contract, Alstom provides budget stability and availability of parts for the customer to focus on maintenance and operation. SFMTA’s fleet has seen outstanding performance, including 99.79% availability in the year 2021/2022 and reliability improved by more than 70%.

  • Innovative and sustainable bus system for Paris

Alstom, HESS, and Kiepe Electric are delivering 30 units of 24-metres, bi-articulated electric buses for Paris’s T Zen project. TZEN 4 line length of 14,3km equipped of 10 fast SRS charging points and 2 fast SRS charging point at depot area is powered by fast-charging batteries and Alstom’s ground-based SRS system. Shaping resilient, low-carbon, inclusive futures

Alstom's CSR in India is designed with an intersectional lens

Alstom's CSR in India is rooted in an intersectional approach that brings together inclusion, equity and climate action with a spirit of innovation and collaboration. We believe empowered communities are the foundation of India's progress. By working alongside partners, innovators, and changemakers, we aspire to share a future that is resilient, low-carbon, and invlusive. A future where growth and sustainability move hand in hand.

  • LEAP: Women at the Wheel of Safer, Greener Commutes in Bengaluru

In partnership with WRI India, we launched LEAP (Low Emission Access to Public Transport) to transform last-mile mobility. The program trains and supports women to drive electric three-wheelers around metro stations, addressing safety for passengers and creating dignified livelihoods for drivers.

  • Sustainable mobility incubation: Powering India's climate-tech entrepreneurs

We partnered with NSRCEL at IIM Bangalore to design an incubation program that de-risks early ventures. Cohorts focus on real bottlenecks in India's clean mobility transition: EV infrastructure, green manufacturing, shared mobility, and more.

  • STEAM Shakti: Igniting curiosity in Bihar

We established STEAM labs in Madhepura's schools, paired with teacher training in inquiry-based methods. Students work on local problem-solving projects and showcase them during fairs like National Science Day. This loop of exposure, practice, and recognition builds scientific confidence.

  • Magic bus skilling: Preparing youth for tomorrow's workforce

Our model blends life skills, digital literacy, spoken English, and sector-specific training across BFSI, IT, healthcare, retail, and logistics. Training is intensive, personalized, and concludes with employer linkages.

  • Integrated rural livelihoods: Strengthening Madhepura

We support households to diversify across agriculture, livestock, and enterprise. Goat health camps and Pashu Sakhi training improve livestock productivity. Nutrition gardens reduce costs and improve diets.

  • Lifeline Express: Healthcare on rails

We brought the LifeLine Express, the world's first hospital train, to Madhepura. Equipped with operating theatres and staffed with specialists, it delivered orthopedic, dental, gynecology, and pediatric surgeries.

  • Swasth Samuday Sankalp: Healthier adolescence in Bihar

We combined awareness sessions with tangible resources: reusable pads and iron supplements. Health screenings create baselines, while facilitators check adherence.

  • Care on Wheels: Healthcare at the doorstep

We deployed three medical vans on fixed village routes with doctors and nurses. Each visit delivers consultations, preventive care, and referral navigation. Focus is placed on women, children, and elderly beneficiaries.

  • Integrated WASH: Clean water and hygiene in Saharanpur

We refurbished community toilets, built household toilets, installed handpumps, and added solar streetlights for safety. Child Cabinets in schools promoted hygiene awareness.

  • Lake rejuvenation: Reviving Bengaluru's water

We rejuvenated Bidare Agrahara Lake by desilting, cleaning bunds, creating wetlands, and planting saplings. Fencing and walkways prevent encroachment while inviting daily use.

  • Rural Rising: Holistic rural development

We created Rural Rising, a multi-theme intervention combining school refurbishments, water ATMs, sanitation, renewable energy, and women's skilling. Mangrove restoration protects biodiversity and livelihoods.
