Barcelona Rolling Stock site

Alstom has in Barcelona one of the Group's most important rolling stock manufacturing sites. With more than a thousand employees, the site has the capacity to produce all types of trains - from the design phase to the final delivery to the customer. The site is currently developing an ambitious transformation plan, which includes the application of the latest digital and automation technologies, empowering human capital and a strong focus on sustainability.

National and international projects

The Barcelona site has manufactured streetcars, metros, regional trains and suburban trains for projects in Chile, Lima, Panama, Santo Domingo, Sydney, Singapore, Athens and Madrid. It is currently working on projects for Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Cologne and Casablanca. In addition, the site also has a strong focus on the local market. Alstom's current projects in Catalonia include new metros for Barcelona Metro lines 1 and 3; new trams equipped with APS technology to connect the Trambaix and Trambesòs networks; high-capacity commuter trains for the Rodalies network, and shuttle trains for FGC, which will connect Barcelona's site with the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport.

Committed to Catalonia

  • Alstom has more than 230 local suppliers, many of them small and medium-sized companies, which are key to the development of the Catalan industrial footprint. Many Catalan suppliers who began their relationship with Alstom through the Barcelona industrial site have become Alstom suppliers worldwide. In the last year, Alstom companies worldwide made purchases of over 212 million euros from Catalan suppliers.

  • We work with Catalan high schools and vocational training schools to promote technical vocations. We collaborate with the UPC in specialised engineering training. We have also signed an agreement with the Departmanet d'Empresa i Treball de la Generalitat to promote industrialisation and employment.

Quality employment

Alstom continues with its growth and expansion plan in Catalonia, which includes incorporating new profiles and professionals, both recent graduates and experienced professionals, into its different sites. In recent years, Alstom has made nearly 500 new hires in Catalonia.
