Mitrac Drive: Motors, gearboxes and generators for enhanced performance

Mitrac Drive at a glance
Alstom offers an extensive range of drives, motors and gearboxes, from 50 kW to 1600 kW, suitable to all types of rolling stock and their various operational and integration requirements. Alstom’s drives deliver high performance and reliability levels, leading to savings on energy and lifecycle costs. As part of the Mitrac Drive™ portfolio, Alstom also offers generators ranging from 300 kW to 800 kW, adapted to regional and locomotive applications.
We provide our customers with a wide range of solutions: asynchronous or synchronous (permanent magnet technology) motors, closed or open motors, various cooling and ventilation options, together with winterisation or tropicalisation options. Alstom’s Mitrac Drive motors are available for non-Alstom rolling stock, with guaranteed optimal integration into the bogie and traction chain. Our Mitrac Drive gearbox portfolio also includes fully, partly and unsuspended gearboxes.
Alstom is an acknowledged forerunner in permanent magnet motor (PMM) technology, a high-performance and economical innovation already adopted by locomotives, tram-trains and light-rail vehicles, monorails and automatic metros, as well as regional and high-speed trains. The main benefits of a synchronous permanent magnet motor are its lighter weight and compactness compared to asynchronous motors. Together, with a higher power-to-weight ratio, provides vehicles with higher performances for reduced operating costs. As closed motors, PMMs also prevent external damage related to pollution, dirt and harsh weather, leading to reduced maintenance needs.
Our Mitrac Drive portfolio also includes a broad range of asynchronous motor technologies, such as highly compact solutions offering an optimised interface with the gearbox, form or random wires, as well as various cooling options (self-ventilated, forced ventilated, watercooled). The range also includes Mitrac motors specially tailored for energy savings and noise reductions.
For more than a century, our expertise in motors and gearboxes has been deployed in excellence and design centres, including Ornans (France), Västerås (Sweden), and Vienna (Austria), guaranteeing a sustained effort in Research & Development and innovation. In addition to Lead Centres Units in Europe, our sites located in China, United States, India, and South Africa are ideally positioned to offer local proximity, providing solutions to best meet customer needs.
In addition to delivering reliable products, we offer a comprehensive range of customised services to maintain and repair all rolling stock, subsystems and components throughout their full lifecycle, providing customers and their passengers with the best-in-class availability levels.
